Register of all the archaeological sites investigated by the Aboriginal Archaeological Section of the Universidad de Oriente
Synopsis
For any researcher who approaches the pre-Columbian past of the eastern region of Cuba, this is a text of necessary consultation. Dr. Felipe Martínez Arango was a member of the faculty of the Universidad de Oriente since its foundation. He was director of the Department of Extension and Cultural Relations. As a dependency of this, the Historical and Archaeological Research Section arose, which also gave rise to archaeological studies in the institution. As part of the field work, scientific expeditions were organized to archaeological sites in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Guantánamo, Las Tunas and Holguín. The result of this work is the work Register of all the archaeological sites investigated by the Aboriginal Archaeological Section of the Universidad de Oriente, a valuable result that systematizes more than thirty years of work in terms of excavation and exploration (1949-1980). All this made it possible to collect a considerable material heritage belonging to the pre-Columbian cultures that populated the territory, which led to the founding of the Museum of Archeology and History of the Universidad de Oriente.
