https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/1895

https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/1894

https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/1879

https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/1870

Ricardo Betancourt ChilaDolka Mariuxi Bejarano

https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/1864

https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/1861

Dr. C.
A set of experiences and contributions to medical education is offered, the result of the scientific work of the professors of the University of Medical Sciences of Santiago de Cuba, particularly of the Faculty of Medicine No.1, during the Covid-19, in Cuba and abroad. The ideological conception of the book consists of distinguishing the complexity of the current contexts for the academic development of health, from a vision that integrates the possible impacts of emergencies and disasters; in order to extrapolate them as contingency challenges. By the way, the contributions are novel (in addition) due to the nature of their theoretical-methodological construction.
Frey Vega-VeranesSandra María Casas-GrossLeonardo Ramos-HernándezCecilia Gisela Melián-SavignonRaymel Andrés Chávez-MeliánJacqueline Esther Rosales-MorenoLeticia Alvarez-EscalanteLeidys Cala-CalviñoSandra Peacok-AldanaIleana Cutiño-ClavelAlina Savigne-FigueredoMaría C. https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/1750

Justice and humanity in Martí's concept of necessary war is the result of doctoral research José Miguel Soler Texidor, concluded in 2013 and motivated by the link with the Center for Martí Studies. The text introduces us to the studies carried out by the Apostle, José Martí, at the end of his Bachelor's Degree in Civil and Canon Law, on June 30, 1874, in order to deepen his specialty. In Mexico (between 1875-1877) and in the United States (from 1880 to 1894) he analyzed issues of international law about which he wrote in the leading newspapers of his time. The continuous use in the Montecristi Manifesto and in the War Circulars, programmatic documents of the organization of the Necessary War, of the most advanced concepts, categories, norms and principles of the Law of War, make it a precursor of Law Humanitarian International.

As a result of the passion that everything related to Martí arouses in José Miguel Soler, as a teacher and legal advisor of the Martí Program Office, this work is divided into three chapters, the first one addresses the "Historical, theoretical and normative foundations of international community law" , the second chapter deals with “José Martí's Humanitarian Jus Training. Theoretical and normative sources” and, finally, the “Systemic Conception of Martí's Ius Humanitarianism”. Its reading offers interesting perspectives and little discussed about the work and ideas of the "most universal of all Cubans."
José Miguel Soler-Texidor

Although the elements that allow us to set the route of an existence are inevitable: its birth, its roots, its paths; This book is not a biography to use. The infinite footprint of Francisco Ibarra Martínez is, above all, a tribute to Francisco Martínez Ibarra: teacher normaliste, Martí, historian, journalist, revolutionary...
This title is the result of the efforts of its author after the long investigative process that entails the Doctorate in Educational Sciences that the Universidad de Oriente promotes. In any case, this gift to Santiago's historiography contributes to the memory of Cuban education; This intellectual exercise should not go unnoticed.
Osmar Oliva-Crespo

70 years after the first edition of this book, the Universidad de Oriente rescues a document of great value for Marti studies in this region of the country. On the Centenary of José Martí, our House of Higher Studies paid a well-deserved tribute with a cycle of conferences coordinated by the Directorate of Extension and Cultural Relations, by Felipe Martínez Arango. The sharpest voices of the time presented their assessments of the Apostle, joined by professors and students from the host institution: Raimundo Lazo, Jorge Mañach, Juan Marinello, Humberto Piñera, Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring, José Antonio Portuondo, among others. . In 1953, a transcendental year for the History of Cuba, the publication of this book demonstrated the actuality of the Master's ideas among the island's intelligentsia.
Octavio López-FonsecaLuz Elena Cobo-ÁlvarezFelipe Martínez-ArangoOclides VázquezRaimundo LazoRamón InfiestaJorge MañachJuan MarinelloJosé L.
The Universidad de Oriente has a Martian vocation. Since its foundation in 1947, its teachers and students have had the figure of the Apostle as the reason for their daily actions. This compilation is organized in four parts; The first reproduces two oratory pieces that mark the trajectory of Martí's studies in the eastern Alma Mater: "Martí at the University" and "Martí's current profile", initiators of the 1948 and 1953 conference cycles and of the books that guaranteed its durability in the collective memory of Cubans; in the second, generalizing assessments are included on the predominant lines of research on José Martí at the oriental university, in the third there are monographic approaches to the work of relevant exegetes of Martí and in the fourth, prologues, reviews and presentations on historiographical novelties are incorporated. Martí themed written by professors from the Universidad de Oriente.
This compilation is not intended to be an integral balance of the history of Marti's reception at the Universidad de Oriente; Instead, it aspires to facilitate the approach to a history that deserves to be reconstructed and disseminated, so that the new batches of professors and students of the university know, identify with each other and continue the path forged.
Israel Escalona-ChadezFelipe Martínez-ArangoLuz Elena Cobo-ÁlvarezOctavio López-FonsecaYumileydis Maceo-HierrezueloYailín Alina Bolaño-RuanoRicardo Hodelín-TabladaNamilkis Rovira-SuárezLuís Felipe Solís-BedeyOrlando Miyares-RepiladoLídice Duany-DestradeMaría Antonia Pérez-LoraGiovanni Villalón-GarcíaManuel Fernández-CarcassésArnoldo Fernández-VerdeciaHebert Pérez-ConcepciónPedro Pablo Rodríguez-LópezAntonio Isaac-HechavarríaYamil Sánchez-Castellanos

https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/40

From 1995 is the first edition of Elements of the Martian cosmovision, by Dr.C. Antonio Escalona Delfino; another example of the presence of Martí studies in the eastern Alma Mater. In the Complete Works of the Master, the author explores conceptual elements related to nature or society that allow the construction of a general image of how Martí saw the world. The Apostle still has a lot to say at this time and Escalona proves it. He affirms that what is characteristic of the philosophical ideas of José Martí is in the progressive evolution they experienced towards the positions of materialism, a process interrupted by a premature death. He was an idealist –says the researcher– in transit towards increasingly exact and scientific positions of the universe. The publication of this volume was the result of a long process in defense of Martí's philosophical positions. The text becomes as drinkable and clear as "the mountain of foam" of the Simple Verses, but if this is not enough to get to the book, the prologue by Dr.C. Lídice Duany Destrade offers the keys for its understanding and study by students and specialists.
José Antonio Escalona-DelfinoLídice Duany-Destrade

https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/65

For any researcher who approaches the pre-Columbian past of the eastern region of Cuba, this is a text of necessary consultation. Dr. Felipe Martínez Arango was a member of the faculty of the Universidad de Oriente since its foundation. He was director of the Department of Extension and Cultural Relations. As a dependency of this, the Historical and Archaeological Research Section arose, which also gave rise to archaeological studies in the institution. As part of the field work, scientific expeditions were organized to archaeological sites in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Guantánamo, Las Tunas and Holguín. The result of this work is the work Register of all the archaeological sites investigated by the Aboriginal Archaeological Section of the Universidad de Oriente, a valuable result that systematizes more than thirty years of work in terms of excavation and exploration (1949-1980). All this made it possible to collect a considerable material heritage belonging to the pre-Columbian cultures that populated the territory, which led to the founding of the Museum of Archeology and History of the Universidad de Oriente.
Felipe Martínez-ArangoBeatriz Ibelisse Dávila-AbreuRoberto Valcárcel-Rojas

To the declaration as a National Monument of the Universidad de Oriente in March 2021, the festivities for the 75th Anniversary of its foundation are added. A group of historians, architects and specialists from various technical areas compiled studies, photographs, plans and other archive materials; They evaluated the associated cultural assets and carried out a technical-construction characterization of various properties and spaces to prepare the file sent to the National Monuments Commission. A summary of that document is collected in this book with a volume of images that are appreciated for their high historical and heritage value.
This university, mother of a large part of the Higher Education institutions in the east of the Island, is committed to the rescue of its history, culture and values, a path to continue in the formation of comprehensive young people from Cuba and abroad.
The first edition of Fábula y vida was published by the Universidad de Oriente in 1955. Juan Chabás Martí (Denia, Alicante, 1900 – Havana, 1954), a Spanish writer, was received by this young Higher Education institution as a member of its faculty. as a professor of Spanish Literature, at the Faculty of Philosophy and Education from 1949 to 1954. The text was part of the collection published by the Directorate of Extension and Cultural Relations. He was under the care of Dr. José Antonio Portuondo, a leading figure of literary criticism in the country. The referents of Chabás can be located in the Generation of 98 and are connected with the modernity of the Generation of 27.
The guerrilla fight, the Spanish resistance during the years of the Civil War, the flow of consciousness of a dead character who at times remembers his life; the class struggle, the proletariat, rural life, love and jealousy... are some of the themes of Fable and Life. It expresses the vital attitude of Juan Chabás and his conception of the world. The chosen narrative structure is simple, direct and linear. Time is continuous chronological with few flashbacks. The stories reveal “his strong personality […] his deep tenderness that caresses men and things and shapes the landscape with the plastic delight of a painter or mosaicist. It handles the bright and dark tones of the palette equally. He paints the atmosphere with the skill of a good impressionist ”.
Juan ChabásAna Vilorio-Iglesias

https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/41

The first edition of this text was published in 1948 as part of a series of conferences in homage to the 95th anniversary of the birth of José Martí. This collection brings readers back to speeches delivered by professors and students from Universidad de Oriente and incorporates a foreword by Dr.C. Israel Escalona Chadez, by way of presentation. This new edition of Homage to José Martí allows us to listen to the thoughts of professors and students of a university that he proclaimed Science and Conscience as an essential attribute. In the authoritative and firm voice of Felipe Martínez Arango, in the opening words of the series of conferences, the progressive thought of the founding nucleus of the Casa de Altos Estudios emerges. Inspiring and organizing the tribute to the Master, the enthusiastic Director of the Department of Cultural Relations outlines the "current profile of Martí". Likewise, the maturity of the students is shown, capable of delineating essential edges of Martí's thought. Serve this volume for scholars of Martí's reception in the east of the country. Valuable also for the rescue of the historical and editorial memory of the Universidad de Oriente on its 75th anniversary.
Felipe Martínez-ArangoCarlos A. Martínez-FortunRafael G. https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/49

Czech professor Josef Dubsky (1917-1996) was a Hispanist who made study trips to Cuba (1963 and 1972) and, especially, to the Universidad de Oriente (1969 and 1971-1972). His studies were compiled in Introduction to the Stylistics of the Language (1970) and Functional Linguostilistics (1989), both published by this House of Higher Studies. The first of them, just over 50 years after publication, is a reason for remembrance by the group of the Literature career.
This book is organized in two parts; the first, made up of the original text published in 1970 by the Directorate of University Extension and Cultural Relations of the Universidad de Oriente (UO) –which we are saving today as part of the Anniversary collection–, gathers the ideas of Dubsky, trained in the Círculo Linguistics of Prague, on stylistics, methods, functional styles and their applications. It consists of thirteen chapters, an appendix and the bibliography. The second part brings together works on stylistic studies and on different linguistic topics by professors from the UO, the “Martha Abreu” Central University of Las Villas and the University of Lille, France.
Mercedes Causse-CathcartAna María Guerra-CasanellasCarlos Manuel Rodriguez-GarcíaYaima Bermúdez-PadrónAnabel Amil-PortalYamilé Pérez-GarcíaAna Vilorio-IglesiasDaína Escobedo-LoraMailén del Carmen Garcés-LabautIngrid Hernández-MoyaTania Ulloa-CasañaIrina Bidot-MartínezLílian Rodrigues-de AlmeidaAlejandro Arturo Ramos-Banteurt Milagros Alonso-PérezGiselle María Méndez-HernándezRafael Fonseca-Valido

Inauguration of the Universidad de Oriente, Discourses collects two oratory pieces from the founding beginnings of the Universidad de Oriente during the academic year 1947-1948: the salutation of the first rector, Dr. Felipe Salcines Morlote and the dean of the Faculty of Law and Commercial Sciences, Dr. Francisco Martínez Anaya on behalf of the Board of Directors. Two appendices complete the book, in the first he makes a selection of articles from the Statutes of the Universidad de Oriente. There appear the rights and duties of the faculty, the organization of teaching and learning, and even the responsibility of teachers to avoid verbalisms and "passivism". A curious note is the appendix in which the essential scheme of the Department of Cultural Relations appears. Hence the fact that the University was born with an extensionist vocation, which promoted relations with other research centers, publications, research, the development of a wide range of artistic activities but, especially, the concretion of the cultural spirit of our Alma Mater.
Felipe Salcines-MorloteFrancisco Martínez-AnayaVictor Hugo Leyva-Sojo

Universidad de Oriente: the passion to create is a collective work that compiles 75 articles, most of them short, about the historical evolution of the Casa de Altos Estudios. An opportune moment to highlight his distinguished role in the training of generations of professionals, as well as his exemplary contribution to the development of the scientific and cultural life of the nation. The articles presented here refer to relevant figures and facts of this university, declared a National Monument on March 24, 2021. Some of these texts have been published previously, others, hitherto unpublished, provide references on events in which our Soul Mater has played an active role in recent times.
In a general sense, this new bibliographical piece invites the reader to delve into the writing and enhancement of this very unique university history, which has, as an undoubted cornerstone, the colossal work carried out by a community that is deeply proud of its decisive role in the same.
David Silveira-ToledoIsrael Escalona-ChadezManuel Fernández-CarcassésRafael Ángel Borges-BetancourtDaineris Mancebo-CéspedesJorge Félix Abdala-FrancoZoila Rodríguez-GobeaYamil Sánchez-CastellanosAsel Viguera-MorenoLuis González-PérezOctavio López-FonsecaNamilkis Rovira-SuárezDamaris A. https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/63

It was Lake Texcoco, which Felipe Martínez Arango calls "of Netzahualcóyotl", it is the space selected to show the Mesoamerican greatness. It is the reconstruction of the historical landscape of different cultures and peoples, taking the poet and military king Netzahualcóyotl as the guiding thread to intertwine the evolution of different towns and cities such as Texcoco and Tenochtitlán.
The Lake of Netzahualcóyotl is a text close to poetic prose. With precise adjectives, the author describes the natural environment, the site of the events he narrates. It allows to know the characteristics of the towns that developed in the surrounding space and their role in history; rhetoric that is only possible when there is extensive knowledge and expertise based on scientific dialogue.
It is a work of great aesthetic and historical value, useful for a wide public interested in Archeology and pre-Hispanic subjects, but also for students of art, history, letters and others related to the humanities. Also attached are the original photographs of the second edition of this book (Universidad de Oriente, 1955), and others, all unpublished, from Martínez's visits to Mexico.
Felipe Martínez-ArangoBeatriz Ibelisse Dávila-AbreuTania García-Lescaille

https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/57

.Telling the history of the Faculty of Law is telling the history of the Universidad de Oriente. Professor Carlos de Agüero Prieto carried out an extensive and careful bibliographic search and interviews to build this academic exercise that we publish today in the Anniversary Collection. For the purposes of this volume we have divided the text into three parts from 1947 to 1961, from 1959 to 1961 and from 1972 to 2009.
It is plausible to compile the names of students enrolled in the ten courses of the School of Law and the professors who accompanied that training process. After 1959, the classrooms reopened and the Universidad de Oriente faced a purification process that Carlos de Agüero remembers as a witness of those years. No less important is the explanation of the composition of the four deaneries from 1976 and the composition of the student and mass organizations.
It remains to reconstruct the recent years of the current Faculty of Law.
Carlos de Agüero-PrietoReinaldo Suárez-Suárez

This book is a compilation of works that introduce us to the analysis of the complex phenomenon of identity in a wide range of relationships and nuances that invite reflection. The participating authors, researchers from the Universidad de Oriente and the Casa del Caribe in Santiago de Cuba, present us with results that have been part of master's and doctorate projects; others introduce new analyzes that will find their first important socialization in this space. It is organized in three parts. The first compiles texts that are conceptualized as studies of identity and culture. The second analyzes identity in its context and historical conditions, Cuban identity, Haitian identity, Caribbean culture, racial problems, environmental culture, among other topics.
This book is more than the moving life story of Marta Segovia, Salvadoran fighter, member of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front. It is the testimony of a people that took to the streets to achieve self-determination, that took up arms and fought for the oppressed working class. It is the x-ray of a woman, like many others in El Salvador, silenced by historiography, who risked her life, who suffered torture, who stood up, who continue to raise their voices. The value of this volume is to collect the recent history of Latin America, before the entire revolutionary process of our peoples is erased with a stroke of the pen.
Yesenia Segovia

https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/202

The main accesses to the city of Santiago de Cuba have landscape values affected by a growing environmental deterioration, lack of unification in the design and an aggravating disqualification of its image. The general objective of this research is based on carrying out landscape integration studies for the main accesses of the city, arriving at management and planning proposals. The methodological process used exhibits a synthesis of the environmental problem, definition of general territorial and specific guidelines for certain landscape units, evaluation of the landscape potential and definition of the intervention criteria. This work will be of great value for students and professors of Architecture, for the Department of Physical Planning and project companies both at the provincial, national and foreign level, as well as for decision-makers and the general public interested in achieving more beautiful and harmonious cities from their access roads. entrance.
Maritza Espinosa-OcallaghanGraciela Gómez-Ortega

https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/24

This book is the result of an enormous and long research work in a dozen archives and repositories of Spanish and Cuban manuscripts. Also from the testimonies of numerous foreign travelers to the Island, during the 19th century, who were impacted by the issue of food, due to the differences in Cuban practices compared to those of their countries; as well as cookbooks, especially from 1856.
The theme of food introduces us to the realities and social problems in the period of formation of the Cuban nationality and the incidence of a broad cultural heritage that impacted the history of the Island, from the aborigines to the Hispanic footprint and the essential presence of the African and Caribbean legacy, already varied in itself.
The supply to the cities and the situation in the fields, eating habits and their distinction between social classes; the use of beverages and especially the diet of the mambises during the wars of independence are topics addressed in the book. This volume is accompanied by a large and delicious recipe book of 19th century Creole cuisine, a sample of the creative ingenuity of the Cuban people, with a selection of typical regional dish preparations.
Ismael Sarmiento-Ramírez

This book compiles the biography of teachers from the city of Santiago. The biographies are clear examples of educators whose achievements unequivocally express an appropriation of the Cuban culture of the teaching profession. From them, the Cubanness and the Latin American sentiment springs up. Although the immediate recipients of these results are those who, in our classrooms, are trained as future educators, we assure you that they will be very well received by a much broader reading public, since here we are talking about exemplary teachers. That is everyone's issue and not just those who move in university settings.
Yanet Leal-CosmeManuel Fernández-CarcassésMaría Cristina Hierrezuelo-PlanasDoris Virgilio Licea-MilánMaribel Asín-CalaZoila Rodríguez-GobeaRafael A.

This is not a book about the history of Cuba; Nor is it the account of the actions of the Rebel Army led by Fidel Castro and aimed at the triumph of January 1959. Here the dogmatic idea of believing that a revolution is only possible if the objective and subjective conditions are met is deconstructed. To demonstrate this, Nils Castro relies on the example of the Cuban Revolution and the clear and precise analysis of his main leader on the reality of his country, the Latin American continent and the world context. This volume is addressed to young people but, above all, to the leaders of the left in Latin America, who are increasingly present in the current political field. Success and setbacks, progress and setbacks, ideas and strength, only in this way, based on these reflections, was the definitive victory achieved on the Island.
Nils Castro

2016-01-162016-01-16El Caribe Arqueológico
https://ediciones.uo.edu.cu/index.php/e1/catalog/book/67

Born in 1993, the magazine Del Caribe has tried to collect in its pages approaches from the Caribbean region that, from the social sciences as a whole, materialize a multiple and incisive inquiry, sometimes commanded by theoretical abstraction, sometimes close to the testimonial, to the essential collection of evidence of the popular culture of the Caribbean that otherwise ran the risk of being lost. In this trajectory, with increasing force, archeology has requested a presence commensurate with the importance of its scientific work. The Archaeological Caribbean is an extension of Del Caribe towards this field, but it is also the fulfillment of a debt with Caribbean archaeologists, to whom we could not always give the space they deserved due to the marked specialization of their investigative results. This publication is the result of the work that Casa del Caribe has carried out in the investigation, promotion and diffusion of Caribbean culture over almost three decades, with the generous help provided by Dr. Betty Meggers and Taraxacum S.A. for its financing, the collaboration of Dr. Marcio Veloz Maggiolo and, above all, the invaluable contributions that Caribbean archeology has been making to better understand our history. Even though it is an extension of Del Caribe, we have preferred that El Caribe Arqueológico appear with its own numbering, since it is our aspiration to dedicate an issue each year to archaeology. This, by the will of its Editorial Board, is fundamentally dedicated to Cuba. In subsequent issues, other countries in the area will receive more attention. Be therefore an invitation to specialists in the field.
Iraida Vargas-ArenasAgamemnon Gus-PantelJosé Manuel Guarch-DelmonteAntonio Rafael Cobo-AbréuAlfredo F.
