Bringing learning assessment closer to the cognitive needs of the student, in close connection with the solution of technological demands and the development of skills to be able to undertake professional performances has been an ancestral claim of Higher Education worldwide, although at present it is an imperative. At the academic level, we should not continue to promote the imparting of mere knowledge to be applied in certain contexts and processes, an issue that has traditionally been handled by pedagogues/researchers. It is crucial to look at the formation of desirable actions in subjects from the most innovative forms of assessment for the transformation of realities. Therefore, this text brings together several sections that project this vision by putting into effect and relevance the evaluative role of learning assessment. From this significance, the great challenges for education systems arise in implementing combined forms that favor the personal growth of the student. As an innovative proposal, the portfolio is recreated as an instrument for comparing diverse evidence that makes it possible to carry out work based on metacognition in order to ensure the student's continuous improvement.
